About Us
Sikhanyisa Foundation is a social
justice non-profit organisation that promotes equal access and equal
opportunities for members of grass roots communities within South Africa.
Our mandated purpose is the development and improvement of the quality of life for all South Africans by addressing matters of inequality, injustice, and prejudice in all spheres of community life, including socio-economic transformation, relational dialogue and development, as well as environmental awareness and support.
Our Projects & Services:
Animal & Environmental Support Centre
With the assistance of volunteers, together with animal and environmental rights activists in our local communities, we educate and encourage people to consider the environment and our relaince on Mother Nature. Our children do regular visits to the beaches to clean up plastic and washed out waste, giving the next generation a passion for environmental care. Stranded and injured animals are cared for and released back into their natural environments.
Technology Learning Centre
Our 15 seat technology learning centre is currently being built to provide the semi-rural community of Tugela with internet and computer facilities that will enable access to the web with printing and communications solutions for all people within the community. The centre aims to provide learning facilities that will equip adults with the tools for further education while providing young people with a safe study and research environment. The majority of homes in this community do not have access to a computer- this facility will bridge that gap, enabling adults to become more employable and providing young people with greater learning opportunities. We hope that this centre will blossom into a comprehensive learning facility.
Small Business Development Unit
We provide small businesses the opportunity to grow and develop while they are finding their feet. We provide them with free office space, mentorship and training, as well as access to technological solutions for their fledgling businesses, such as email, hosted PABX facilities, shared boardroom and office spaces, as well as a fully functional shared admin service. All of this is provided free of charge for the first six months, giving the business an opportunity to grow and overcome initial capital obstacles that most small businesses encounter.
Gym & Health Facility
Personal physical health is an important priority in the development and maintenance of healthy communities. Our gym and health facility is under construction in Tugela, KZN and we hope to provide a basic training facility that will be open to all members of the community at an affordable rate. We will be hosting regular health talks and consultations from renowned health professionals with the aim of educating and motivating our communities to live and choose healthier lifestyles.
Mini Industrial Park
Our 12 unit Light Industrial Business Park is aimed at creating both business as well as employment opportunities within our community. The business park is currenlty in its conceptual and design phase and we hope to raise the funding to complete this facility within the next 5 years. The park is being designed to include cutting edge technology as well as green building design to ensure that its tenants will have full access to the most relevant technology while being environmentally responsible.
Holistic Family Support
Healthy families make for healthier communities. Sikhanyisa Foundation facilitates counseling and emotional trauma interventions for families and individuals, with a focus on both emergency intervention as well as planned counseling programmes geared to build marriages, develop young people, equip adults, and train facilitators for social change. We believe in the holistic development of both the family and the individual, with guidance for social, spiritual, financial, emotional, and physical growth.
Social Justice and Activism Initiatives
To provide equal acces and opportunity to all individuals in any given community, we need to be fearless and determined to see the change we envision for that community. Our primary purpose is to demand equal access for all people to opportunities that may be available as well as to the rights that are inherent in the freedom that our country has fought hard for.
Sikhanyisa Foundation demands transparency and fairness from both corporate and public sector institutions with the fundamental belief that injustice within these sectors contributes to inequality within the local communities that these entities serve. We employ the services of legal and audit professionals where necessary to ensure that these goals are met and that the benefit of this filters down to the grass roots communities that need it.
We also demand responsibility and consideration from entities that serve the public, e.g., taxi associations and operators, vendors, tow truck drivers, etc., to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the average citizen is protected and valued above profits and control. Every citizen has the right to fair and just treatment and services and is entitled to safety and justice.

Sikhanyisa Foundation is a privately funded institution and as such depends largely on the support and funding from its donors and patrons.
